Farina Lichtenstein - January 2026
Farina Lichtenstein is a visual designer, illustrator, and artist based between Skellefteå, Sweden and Hildesheim, Germany. She works both independently and in collaboration with other creatives, moving across disciplines that include painting, drawing, and writing. She stayed at House of Hulda in January 2026.
Lichtenstein’s practice is shaped by a balance between applied and personal work, often reflecting on how external conditions - time, environment, and pressure - affect the creative process. Her work moves fluidly between structure and intuition, allowing different mediums to inform each other.
Arriving at House of Hulda at the start of the year, the residency became a way to reset and refocus. “Working as a creative always means finding a balance of what and how much of surroundings may influence the process.” With distance from everyday demands, she was able to shift her attention back to her own work.
Over three weeks, she worked across writing, sketching, and painting, while also completing five paintings during her stay. The residency allowed her to move between disciplines without hierarchy, developing ideas in parallel rather than isolating them into separate outputs.
At the same time, she built space for rest into her routine. “I allowed myself to have some free time - I went on hikes, stared into the fire and knit a lot.” These slower moments became part of the overall rhythm of the residency, supporting a more focused and sustainable way of working.
“The combination of a safe space in a beautifully designed house, stunning nature and three weeks of time really shaped my work.”
Since her stay, Lichtenstein continues to develop her practice across design and fine art, carrying forward the body of work and working rhythm established during her time at House of Hulda.
