Estelle Bourdet - February 2026

Estelle Bourdet is a textile artist working with weaving, material exploration, and site-responsive processes. Her practice draws from architecture, landscape, and the structural qualities of natural forms, often translating observation into tactile work. She stayed at House of Hulda in February 2026.

Bourdet’s work is grounded in material investigation—using weaving as a way to explore texture, rhythm, and composition. Her process often begins with close observation, allowing shapes, colours, and structures found in nature to inform both method and outcome.

During her three-week residency, she focused on developing new ideas while also preparing project applications for the coming years. Alongside this, she brought a floor loom with her, working on both small commissions and material experiments using elements found on the island.

“Being at House of Hulda gave me three weeks to focus deeply on developing ideas.”

Her initial intention was to immerse herself in the landscape of Northern Norway to observe, rather than produce a fixed body of work. That approach carried through her stay, where attention and reflection became central to her process. The changing light, shifting colours, and textures of the environment fed directly into her notes and material explorations.

The residency also included a shared dynamic. She stayed alongside three other artists - a circus artist, a weaver, and a fashion designer, with whom she shared daily routines, conversations, and time outdoors. These exchanges became part of the experience, opening up space for dialogue and potential collaboration.

“The calm and beautiful surroundings encouraged slowing down, reflecting, and observing with attention.”

Since her stay at House of Hulda, Bourdet continues to develop her textile practice, carrying forward both the material experiments and the collaborative ideas initiated during the residency.
